Gratitude and Altruism
The holiday season always brings a sense of gratitude and altruism for me. Seasonal depressive episodes are tough, but I know they are temporary so I have to push through them. Appreciating what I have and engaging in selfless acts help ground me around this time. Perspective is everything and thinking outside of myself helps me manage my mental health. The balance is not giving all of yourself that you feel drained or used. Trying to please others around this time can cause that. Give without reason and accept that there maybe different responses or receptions. As long as I’m at peace with what I’ve done without harming myself or others, that is all that matters to me.
My mantra today: I give what I can without sacrificing myself.
